Week 1 · From Crisis to Clarity · Chapters 1–2

01

The challenge

Personal finance is largely behavior change—not simply head knowledge. A better plan becomes powerful when it is paired with new habits, honest numbers, and consistent action.

“If you live like no one else, later you can live and give like no one else.”
Dave Ramsey
02

Stewardship, not ownership

What changes when I believe my money belongs to God—and that I am its manager, not its owner?

Notice

Financial pressure rarely appears overnight. It grows through repeated habits.

Name

Denial sounds like “we're doing okay,” comparison, delay, and using debt as a buffer.

Choose

Healthy finances create margin for mission, generosity, and sustainability.

03

The seven Baby Steps

  1. 1$1,000 starter emergency fund
  2. 2Pay off all debt using the debt snowball
  3. 3Build a 3–6 month emergency fund
  4. 4Invest 15% for retirement
  5. 5Save for your children's college
  6. 6Pay off your home early
  7. 7Build wealth and give generously
04

Build the first $1,000

$1,000

A temporary first layer of protection from life's surprises.

The starter emergency fund creates breathing room, reduces the chance that a small crisis becomes new debt, and builds confidence through an early win.

Cut

Eat at home, pause luxuries, and cancel unused subscriptions.

Sell

Turn unused electronics, clothes, or furniture into cash.

Earn

Use overtime, delivery work, babysitting, or another short-term side job.

Direct all additional income toward the starter fund—not extra spending. Then attack the smallest debt balance for momentum and repeat.

05

Replace money myths with truth

01

“Debt is a tool.”

Truth · Debt can become bondage to creditors.

02

“Budgeting is too restrictive.”

Truth · A budget is a plan for spending before you get paid.

03

“I'll save later when I make more.”

Truth · Saving is a habit; practice it at every income level.

04

“I don't make enough to follow a plan.”

Truth · Income matters, but behavior still shapes the outcome.

“The borrower is the slave of the lender.”Proverbs 22:7 · ESV
06

Bring it into the room

  1. 01What is the biggest financial crisis you have faced in the last five years?
  2. 02How would $1,000 have changed the way you handled it?
  3. 03What is one thing you could cut or sell this week to begin?

Your next seven days

Turn clarity into action.

  • 01Write down every debt and monthly expense.
  • 02Identify where money can be saved this week.
  • 03Begin a separate $1,000 emergency fund.

“Lord, help me be a good steward with Your resources.”
